Spring Clean Your Dental Routine!

As the days grow longer and flowers begin to bloom, spring is the perfect time for a refresh—and that includes your dental habits! Just as we spring clean our homes and cars, it’s essential to take a moment to assess and revitalize our oral care routines. Now is a great time to let go, upgrade and refresh your dental routine! Here are some tips to get you started!

Refresh Your Toothbrush & Brushing Technique!

The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends you replace your toothbrush every 3-4 months, or sooner, if the bristles become frayed or you’re ill. In addition, here are some brushing tips from the ADA1 to adjust your brushing routine!

  1. Brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes.
  2. Place the toothbrush against the gum line at a 45-degree angle to remove plaque and move the toothbrush gently back and forth in short strokes. Don’t forget to brush your tongue, as it can harbor bacteria.
  3. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and apply gentle pressure, both of which may help reduce the risk of gingival injury.
  4. Do not share your toothbrushes.
  5. Rinse the toothbrush thoroughly after each use to remove any remaining paste and debris.
  6. Store toothbrushes in an upright position after use and allow them to air dry to help reduce microbial growth.

Audit Your Toothpaste!

Not all toothpaste is created equal. When it comes to choosing toothpaste, there are so many varieties and options available, each designed to address specific oral health needs. Use this time to evaluate your current toothpaste and consider these factors:

  1. Check the Ingredients: Toothpaste can have many ingredients. Most toothpastes offer fluoride, a mineral that helps strengthen tooth enamel and prevent cavities. If you have specific dental concerns (sensitivity, cavities, gum health, or whitening), select a toothpaste that addresses those needs.
  2. Consider Natural Options: If you’re interested in natural products, there are plenty of options available, offering effective cleaning power! These options can offer fewer chemicals, fluoride-free, biodegradable ingredients, natural origins and a variety of formulations to tailor to oral health concerns.

Boost your toothpaste game with Dr. Plotka’s, all natural, fluoride-free whitening toothpaste. Created with Organic Propolis to help reduce the risk of cavities, gum sensitivity and plaque build up. Learn more about our 100% natural origin sourced ingredient toothpaste!

Expired!?!

You check food expiration dates when cleaning out the fridge, did you know that your dental care products have expiration dates too! Take a look at your oral care products and toss anything that has surpassed the expiration dates. This is also a good opportunity to switch up your products and try something new!

Floss Smart & Rinse Right!

Flossing is just as important as brushing, yet many people skip this crucial step. Here's how to make it a habit:

  1. Choose the Right Floss: Experiment with different types of floss (waxed, unwaxed, or dental tape) to find what works best for you. Some people even prefer floss picks for convenience.
  2. Set a Reminder: Incorporate flossing into your daily routine by setting a reminder on your phone or leaving the floss next to your toothbrush as a visual cue.

Are you using mouthwash? Now is a great time to start! Mouthwash can help reduce plaque, freshen breath, and reach areas that brushing and flossing might miss. Look for an alcohol-free mouthwash to avoid dry mouth. You can also opt for one that targets specific concerns, such as gum health or whitening.

Set Up a Spring Cleaning!

When was your last dental check-up? Regular visits to the dentist can help catch any potential issues early and keep your smile in top shape. Start your refresh with a professional cleaning and then make it a habit to schedule your check-ups every six months to ensure your smile is healthy & happy!
